Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2025-12-13 updated for account deletion + analytics clarity
MrBeans lets you choose short videos you have already recorded on your phone and have them delivered by email on a future date. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the service:
- Account and contact information. Your email address and basic account details so we can identify you, provide the service, and communicate about your account.
- Recipient information. Email addresses for the people you send messages to, so we can deliver scheduled emails and handle unsubscribe requests or suppression lists.
- Video content and metadata. Video files you select from your device’s library (MrBeans does not record video itself), plus basic metadata like file size, type, duration, and processing status so we can store, transcode, and deliver your message reliably.
- Message details. Text you include with a message (for example, the text shown in the email) and delivery settings such as delivery date and status.
- Usage and log data. Basic logs about how the service is used (for example: message created, delivered, opened via link redirect, or reported), and technical logs (IP address, device type, error codes) to keep the service secure and stable.
2. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the MrBeans service.
- Schedule and send emails with secure links so recipients can watch your videos.
- Show you a history of messages you’ve sent and received, and your current monthly quota usage.
- Detect, prevent, and respond to abuse, spam, and security issues.
- Monitor performance, troubleshoot problems, and improve reliability and user experience.
- Communicate with you about updates, support requests, or important changes to the service.
3. Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these limited situations:
- Service providers. We use trusted third-party processors (for example, cloud hosting, storage, email delivery, analytics, and error reporting) under contract. They may only use your information to provide services to us and must protect it appropriately.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect our rights or those of others, or respond to a valid legal process.
- Business changes. If MrBeans is involved in a merger, acquisition, or similar event, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to similar protections.
4. Service providers we use
MrBeans relies on third-party services to run the app and deliver messages. Depending on your use, data may be processed by providers such as:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) (hosting, databases, authentication, storage, and media processing).
- Postmark (email delivery and related deliverability events such as bounces/complaints).
- TelemetryDeck (lightweight product analytics).
- Firebase Crashlytics (crash/error reporting to improve stability).
Note: Provider usage may evolve over time; we update this policy when there are meaningful changes.
5. Data retention
We keep information only as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal or operational requirements:
- Videos. Videos are stored so we can deliver them on the scheduled date. After delivery, they may remain available for a limited window (for example, to allow re-watching), then may be deleted or archived according to product settings and system policies.
- Message records. Message records (such as who sent what to whom and when) may be retained longer than the video files themselves for security, abuse prevention, quota tracking, and auditing.
- Account data. If you close your account or ask us to delete it, we will remove or de-identify personal data we no longer need, subject to any legal retention requirements. Some records may be retained in de-identified form (for example, to enforce suppression/unsubscribe choices or to prevent abuse).
6. Account deletion
You can request deletion from within the app (Account & Settings) or by contacting us at support@mrbeans.net.
- What is deleted: your profile and membership records, and certain user-owned moderation artifacts.
- Messages: messages you received may be deleted; messages you previously sent may be de-identified (so recipients can still access past deliveries).
- Recipients: unsubscribe and suppression choices may be retained to respect recipient preferences.
7. Security
We take security seriously and use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:
- Encryption in transit and at rest where appropriate.
- Access controls so that only authorized personnel and systems can access sensitive data.
- Logging and monitoring to detect unusual activity or potential abuse.
No online service can promise perfect security, but we work to reduce risk and respond quickly to issues.
8. Your choices
You have several choices about your information:
- Access, correction, and deletion. Contact us at support@mrbeans.net to request access, corrections, or deletion where applicable.
- Email preferences. Recipients of emails sent via MrBeans can unsubscribe using links included in the emails. We maintain suppression lists so we do not send further messages to unsubscribed or bounced addresses.
- App settings. Within the app, you choose which videos to send, when to send them, and which recipients to include.
9. Children
MrBeans is designed for adults who send messages to friends and family. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children without appropriate consent, where required by law. If you believe we have collected personal data from a child without proper consent, please contact us and we will review and address it.
10. International users
MrBeans is operated from the United States. If you use MrBeans from outside the U.S., your information may be processed in the U.S. or other locations where our service providers operate.
11. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of the page. If the changes are significant, we may also provide a more prominent notice in the app or via email.
12. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle personal data, please contact:
